Elements Background

The elemental spirits are spirits from another world, but Uhaia planted them on this world, Ceres, to give them time to heal peacefully after a giant battle. She brought them to an island in the middle of nowhere where they were enshrined for their protection. Eventually their auras healed enough that the spirits automatically began affecting the island's geology/plantation/ecosystem/etc and they became entwined in the land itself until they eventually began to heal enough to regain consciousness.

They were later found by the people living on the island who were pretty ?????? about the sudden but overall positive changes to their environment and were basically treated as gods. The spirits were still extremely weak though so they could only communicate and travel by 'possessing' someone else, but that was less parasitic than it sounds because it also often lead to awakening dormant powers within someone due to the overwhelming spirity stuff (“influx of mana,” if this was an rpg that required mana). Also the person was still conscious and the spirits could let them drive if they wanted, though obviously some found this Profoundly Creepy & Messed Up. But by those who didn't find this Profoundly Creepy & Messed Up, it was an extreme honor to be compatible enough with a spirit that it could possess them and this eventually lead to the guardian cycle much later where one person would house one spirit as a 'guardian' of them and would provide them with energy in return for sick powers.

This went on for centuries since the spirits are basically immortal and take a million years to heal properly, UNTIL Uhaia wanted them back in preparation for an oncoming disaster on the world she's currently residing on, Safler. However, the spirits loved this life and didn't want to go back to a life of fighting and refused. The scuffle resulted in the death of, uh, basically everyone except for Blizzard who Uhaia had remotely possessed from her world for this during an important guardian ceremony, and Twister who had been gone because he has no sense of time.

The spirits all fled and sought out an appropriate vessel (with mixed results) to rest in and went back into dormancy. As the only (apparent) survivor and dying of guilt, Blizzard struck out to try and find the spirits and figure out what to do about this mess. Uhaia, however, has too much going on to get those spirits back herself so she sends her protege, Frost, to go in her place. Issues ensue.

Chill's Background

[fix later] Chill was a normal mortal born to mage parents and oh man was that a point of contention for her. Because of this, she’s known about magic her whole life but was never able to participate in anything related to it and always had to go to normal mortal schools & etc where she could never talk about any of it since Magic Doesn’t Exist, Duh. On its own, that shouldn’t have been That big of a deal except that it only exacerbated her frustration with herself for being so Plain. Thank goodness for overcompensation so she could at least pretend she was really cool and exciting. Anyway, as a result, Chill had issues forming connections with other normal kids.

BUT LUCKILY, she almost died one day by cutting through a construction zone like an idiot, got caught by one of the construction workers like an even bigger idiot, and then got nailed by the fire spirit as it was gunning for said construction worker like the absolute biggest idiot. Sensing the change in the spirit, Blizzard showed up and managed to stop her from actually dying and hot dang was Chill SO PUMPED to learn she could finally use magic. >:DDDDD now if only she could control it in the slightest

Blizzard
A hard ass who desperately needs to find a sense of humor. She's serious alllll the time and keeps chastising her for not practicing enough, but Chill's getting there at her own pace, ok, give it a rest!! She doesn't think Blizzard really gets how embarrassing doing poorly is for her and it's beyond frustrating that she keeps calling her out on it. Still, it's only because of her that Chill finally got powers so... whatever... she guesses. :/

Ermangarde Kekalia
She's nice. Way more patient and understanding than Blizzard is, so she's easier to listen to when they're training but she's definitely someone Chill never saw herself hanging out with before. She's just so... responsible and put together about literally everything??? It's a little awkward when it's just the two of them, honestly, Chill just feels like a mess in comparison.

Angelfire Allaway
Her bffffff, she has a bff now!!! It was incredible how fast they just clicked; Chill's always had issues keeping friends before but it already feels like they've been friends forever and she hopes that never changes. Angie is an outspoken weirdo and Chill thinks it's awesome how much she doesn't care what other people think. But like, genuinely instead of how Chill only pretends to not care. They get into trouble constantly and its the most fun Chill has had in forever.

Firesonne Allaway
Angie's older brother and kind of a miserable bastard??? Apparently Angie was the only one who inherited a sense of humor and optimism because he is just an ass all the time and Chill cannot stand him. Also she may have accidentally set his apartment on fire. Twice. But that's no reason to ban her from the premise and treat her like a dumb child, come onnnnn, who holds grudges like that???

Zachoron Garland
She keeps thinking he's younger than he actually is for some reason, but it's probably because he's still a little baby high schooler (he's one year younger than her) who doesn't talk much and Chill can't carry a conversation to save her life so most of their conversations die in silence pretty quickly. He seems like a nice enough guy? Could use a little more backbone maybe.

Heathoren
He's such an absolute dork he's hilarious to be around. They're friends, don't get her wrong, but he's also REALLY gullible so it's impossible not to pick on him a little. That said, he seems as out of his depth as Chill is and that's comforting when everyone else seems to have a better grasp on their elements than she does. Nothing says solidarity like Heath accidentally blowing something up after Chill accidentally set something on fire. He's a good guy. Also, since he's new here and way more open to it than Blizzard, she gets to subject him to allll the bands and video games she likes. He has pretty good taste for a dork.

Whippa
A weird alien squirrel (?) who used to be part of Frost's group but joined them instead, which makes her the only reason they know what's going on because Frost doesn't say jack. She's a sweet kid and enthusiastic to the core, but she's also a magic eater which weirds Chill out a bit. Whippa seems to be having a blast learning about the world and learning about hers in return is pretty neat, but she gets kinda sad sometimes even though she tries not to show it. Homesick, probably. Chill tries to keep her in high spirits even if she's a little annoying sometimes.

Frostrys
An alien, apparently??? He's trying to steal the elemental spirits back because they MIGHT be able to stop a calamity but would die in the effort. Sounds like a bad deal. But even ignoring all that, he gives her the creeps with the whole shapeshifting thing and life stealing thing and, perhaps most of all, how quiet he is. A dude that tall should not be able to sneak up on her without even trying. Awful, hate this guy.

Libby
A... weird alien cat? She's partners with Frost and tends to do all the talking for the both of them (and also perhaps the rest of the town because she DOES NOT SHUT UP) and is constantly running around like she inhaled a mountain of sugar at all times. She's really annoying to put it lightly. And tried to bite her when she tried to pet her the first time they met and Chill doesn't even want to know what kind of space rabies that would have given her. Uhg.

Aralys
The darkness elemental spirit who drained enough energy from some poor sap(s) that she was able to take a normal mortal's form. Chill can't help but compare her to every "too cool for you" lone wolf character in an anime and sometimes it's really hard not to laugh when she says something about preferring to work alone. She seems pretty chill other than that though, and it's not like Chill can blame her for not wanting to be weak and helpless anymore. She can be frustrating, but doesn't seem bad overall?

Yaruna
The light elemental spirit who also drained enough energy from some poor sap(s) that she was able to take a normal mortal's form. Unless Aralys though, Yaruna's kind of a giant ass about everything. Which, again, Chill can kinda understand because of the helpless spirit who doesn't want to die thing but like, does she need to get so scary about it??? She legitimately seemed like she was trying to kill them the first time they met and it freaked Chill out. They should be on the same side so what the hell is her problem???

Rasek
The fire elemental that she "bonded" with. She kind of expected him to be more... fiery... but he's kind of cold?? Strict, too. Almost like a second Blizzard actually but at least he's easier to wear down since he's so curious about seeing everything this world has to offer. Not that she regularly bribes him with that, nooooo. Rasek is still pretty weak despite his bossiness and to be completely honest, Chill kinda feels bad that he got stuck with her instead of someone who could rejuvenate him better.

Erasmus
He's really cool!!! They met when they both tried to sneak into the same concert and got kicked out (definitely wasn't her fault just btw). They ended up talking afterwards and things just went from there and now they're buds. Apparently he's a new angel of love (??????) who can't control his powers yet so he was avoided meeting people, but Chill was immune due to the aro ace thing, so now he has his first friend and she has her first non-element friend! He's a little edgy (a bonus tbh) and awkward, but he's fun and joins her streams sometimes.
